Fónua is conscious of our business’s impact on the environment and is committed to reducing it! We are focused on the following areas:

Waste Management.

Fónua manages the waste that our business generates responsibly. Firstly, we minimise the level of waste that we generate through the use of innovative packaging solutions and recycling of packaging materials. Secondly, the waste that we do produce is separated and sent for recycling. This includes cardboard and plastic packaging generated by Fónua’s suppliers. By June 2024, Fónua is committed to ensuring that 95% of the waste collected by our waste management partner is recycled.

Fónua is also committed to eliminating the use of single use plastic from our business and the adoption of more sustainable alternative materials.

Energy Efficiency.

Fónua is reducing the level of carbon emissions that our business generates through the activities of our suppliers, our internal operations, our employees and our logistics partners. We first began to measure our carbon emissions in 2022 are using this valuable information to implement initiatives that will reduce them.

We will achieve these targets by reducing the energy that we use in our business, through the use of renewable energy and by working with logistics partners that are committed to the use of zero-emission delivery vehicles where possible.

Fónua is committed to reducing our Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, based on our 2020-21 baseline, and our Scope 1, 2 & 3 emissions to net zero by 2050.

Supply Chain Management.

Fónua sources product from multiple suppliers from across the globe and is committed to reducing the impact of this activity on the environment. We are doing this through the use of responsible manufacturers & suppliers, the promotion of sustainable products & packaging and the adoption of efficient transportation methods.

Circular economy.

Fónua is also committed to reducing the electronic waste through the provision of repair, refurbishment, trade-in & recycling services, through its reverse logistic services division, Fónfix.

Fónfix’s business model is centered around the principles of the Circular Economy, which prioritise reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials to avoid unnecessary waste. This approach diverges from the Linear Economy’s lifecycle that often results in the wastage of functional components. Despite this, Fónfix believes that it is still possible to benefit from technological advancements and innovations while remaining environmentally sustainable.

Fónfix is committed to maximising the re-use value of all redundant IT assets, whether by refurbishing them for their original purpose or utilising their individual parts. These assets can be re-used by their original owners, sold to secondary users or donated to charitable organisations. When these assets eventually reach their End of Life (EOL), Fónfix advocates for their recycling in line with the best environmental practices (WEEE Ireland members), with nothing becoming electronic waste (e-waste) or being sent to landfills.

By promoting the environmental and sustainable use of IT assets for businesses and consumers, the Circular Economy plays a critical role in our global efforts to achieve net-zero emissions. Fónfix wholeheartedly supports this goal.

Emissions Data Reporting.

Each year, Fónua reports our emissions data to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. Over the past 20 years, the CDP has created a system that has resulted in unparalleled engagement on environmental issues worldwide.
